Firestone 15 – Firestone Walker Brewing Company (American Strong Ale)

  • 12.5% ABV
  • My brother is the best person I have ever known. For real, I love M1 to distraction and she is awesome… But… I treated my brother like shit for 16 years. From like the day he was born until he was 16 I was a pretty shitty to him. The only reason I stopped fucking with him is because I joined the Navy and I was gone. What ever, no one but he and I need to know about my shameful actions. For Christmas he got me this crazy ass beer (because he is awesome) that I would have never purchased on my own. It is off the chart ABV wise, to the point that I am having problems typing. It is pretty good for a beer that has 8 different beers mixed together. I am not sure if I would buy another one but I am liking this one.
  • ? Try it on your own… I no longer have the ability to understand.

Terrapin Beer Company – Phlux Capacitor (American Strong Ale)

  • 9.80% ABV
  • Well at least it has an awesome name. HA! that was a misleading statement because this is actually a really good beer. And I mean it in the strictest of the term BEER. It isnt like a Imperial Russian and it isnt like a IPA. It has hops and malts but they are balanced to perfection. They are both really strong but at least they are balanced? What ever. This is a pretty good strong ass beer that I am enjoying like I enjoy all Terrapin’s

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery – Immort Ale (American Strong Ale)

  • 11.00% ABV
  • So supposedly there is maple, vanilla, and oak in this. I can totally taste the vanilla right of the bat and it tastes good. As I sit and type the maple and oak peek out in the after taste which I am appreciating more and more as I drink. Damn, I was almost ready to write this off before I tasted it because of the ABV, which is to god damn high. It keeps growing on me, it reminds me of the Life and Limb but it actually tastes good. I feel like I am eating a New England forest in November. Maple, oak deliciousness…

Lexington Brewing Company – Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale (American Strong Ale)

  • 8.19% ABV
  • Wow. I am at a complete loss. I have been putting off drinking this because the whole “Bourbon Barrel Aged” scared me. Scared me like a little girl. See, I cant drink liquor. I cant smell liquor. Some times if I even think to hard about liquor I will gag. I dont even hate it, I have a physical revulsion to liquor. Any way, I dont want my  beer to have shit to do with Bourbon and so I was scared. And like always I was wrong. This is a delicious beer. No qualifier, it is just a good beer. Strong and I cant emphasize this enough, smooth malts. Glorious malts…

Stone Brewing Company – Double Bastard Ale (American Strong Ale)

  • 11.20% ABV
  • WTF? I have said it before and I mean it, I love Stone. All of their beers are awesome and if I haven’t wanted to stir them all with my weiner because I enjoyed them so much I at least really liked them. So when M1 brought home a Double Bastard I was giddy like a school girl (a new Stone to try makes me get all excited). The storm clouds started gathering when I read the label tho, it is an American Strong Ale which in my experience doesn’t bode well for enjoyment. Then I saw the ABV… 11.2… Really, that is pretty high. It is up in the to much goodness makes me sick altitudes. But what ever, it is a Stone and they never screw with me. At first taste I knew it was all good, this thing has a pretty balanced hop/malt ratio that while not awesome is enjoyable and to top things off it isn’t retarded on the alcohol tasting side. Sadly as I get through the glass the ABV is really starting to hit me. Hit me to the point that I cant really enjoy it. Damn it, this is probably pretty good in specific situations but I cant think of one right now because I am hammered…

Mendocino Brewing Company – Eye of the Hawk (American Strong Ale)

  • 8.00% ABV
  • I am a big fan of the White Hawk IPA from Mendocino so I was pretty psyched to try this. I should have know better, every time I look forward to trying something I am usually let down and unfortunately it has happened here. It isn’t bad tasting but for some reason while the ABV isn’t that high I can really taste it. Or maybe it is just a weird hop, I dont know.

Stone Brewing Company – Arrogant Bastrard Ale (American Strong Ale)

  • High Goodness
  • Welp I would have said this beer was an Imperial, but Stone calls it a Strong Ale. Sure why not. I am only like a quarter of the way through the bottle and I know it is going to be difficult. Not that it tastes bad, far from it, it is just really STRONG. Kind of bitter like a IPA but with a huge malt taste on the back end, strange but good. I know that I will not buy a big bottle of it again but I would be cool with a normal 12 oz.

New Holland Brewing Company – Dragon’s Milk Oak Barrel Ale (American Strong Ale)

  • High Goodness
  • I have Paul again so DUAL REVIEW power… Oak beer beer is a bad. I am pretty sure I havnt had one I really like. I pulled this out for Paul, who is a dark beer connoisseur and both he and I are kind of in alignment in the review. Oak  barrel sucks. Paul thinks it tastes like whiskey and I think it just tastes like ass. As far as I am concerned stay away from all aged beers.
