Short’s Brewing Company – Kolsch 45 (Kölsch)

  • 6.50% ABV
  • While I do like the 80’s reference in the title it doesnt really make up for the lack of a good beer. Its a Kolsch for gods sake, how do you screw that up? I know, I know… I just had and LOVED a Short’s ESB that tasted nothing like an ESB. Welp, it didnt work here. It doesnt have that anything that reminds me of a Kolsch. To sweet, to muddled.

Short’s Brewing Company – Autumn Ale (Extra Special)

  • 5.75% ABV
  • This is, no question, the best ESB I have ever had. It is fucking magic in my mouth, and I dont mean like stage magician magic. This magic is fucking real! If Gandalf peed in a glass and then cast a spell on it I am pretty sure it would taste like this. Magical pee, which I know realize after typing is a pretty shitty analogy. The only thing that gives me pause is that it doenst taste like any other ESB I have tried. It kind of makes me wonder if Short’s didnt just make an awesome beer and then were like “Ehh… fuck it. Its an ESB”. What ever… Magic pee!

Stone / Beachwood / Heretic – Unapologetic IPA (American Double)

  • 8.80% ABV
  • So another IPA from Stone (and homies), so what? Well I don’t know if it matters but there are like 3 or 4 experimental hops in it. Does that make a difference? Ya, I think it does, because while IPA’s are pretty normal now, experimental hops are fucking cool. So what does that mean as far as taste? Its pretty good. It doesn’t have that sweetness that I usually associate with Imperial’s. The hop taste is new but not off the wall. Fuck I don’t know, I am not a god damn hop scientist. It is pretty good but it didn’t make me shit my pants (it has happened, dont judge).

Cambridge Brewing Company – Flower Child (American IPA)

  • 6.50% ABV
  • OK, I know have a new favorite beer. Serious, this is my new favorite beer. It is hoppy as shit, it tastes fucking delicious. And for the love of the innocent lamb, it is only 3.5% ABV. So good… It is also a perfect example of how shitty my life is because I cant buy them in Virginia. I fucking hate everything.

Foolproof Brewing Company – Backyahd India Pale Ale (American IPA)

  • 6.00% ABV
  • So while I was hoping to review this beer I actually spent the whole time arguing with M1. The thing is I kept my cool the whole time, and while we dont agree about this beer it doesnt really matter. Because I am writing the review. HA! Its pretty good. No idea we were fighting about it because it isnt great nor is it horrible.

Jack’s Abby Brewing – Mass Rising (American Double)

  • 8.00% ABV
  • Well this is surprising on so many fronts. First, it is a lager that tastes good. Not something that happens very often. Second, it is as hoppy as an IPA, which I don’t know how you pull off with out fucking the whole thing up. Finally, it is a Imperial which 9 times out of ten I dont like. They pretty much pull it all together for what is a really good (but strange) beer. Thanks Gary, you fucking Boston retard!

Lake Placid Craft Brewing Company – UBU Ale (English Strong Ale)

  • 7.00% ABV
  • OK so you can color me surprised. I do not, under any circumstances, like English Strong Ales. But this is pretty not bad. It has a enjoyable amount of malts without being super shitty about it. It’s not so strong that you cant enjoy the beer but it is certainly isnt shy. It isnt bad but it also isnt my style.

New England Brewing Co. – 668 Neighbor of the Beast (Belgian Strong Pale Ale)

  • 9.00% ABV
  • No sir! No sir, I dont like it. It is probably a fucking awesome beer because I almost like it. Almost… It is so Belgian tasting that it is driving me batty. I taste it and it is good and then that sweetness sets in and ruins the whole experience. At least it is stupidly high in ABV, which is a good thing if you are a fucking hobo.

Baxter Brewing Co. – Stowaway I.P.A. (American IPA)

  • 6.90% ABV
  • Woohoo that is a good IPA. I like the whole pine forest taste thing it has going on. I would like to figure out what hops they used in this because they are really good. It also has a pretty decent malt taste to it which I dont really care for but it works here. Normally I dont like the malts to detract from the hops but it totally works.

Baxter Brewing Co. – Pamola Xtra Pale Ale (American Pale Ale)

  • 4.90% ABV
  • Well it is is crisp and I am pretty sure that is what they are going for, so success on that front.  That isnt fair, this is pretty good, and since it was brewed in Maine which is almost exclusively populated by half-wits I should cut it some slack. It is a excellent example of what I like to think a APA should taste like.
