New Belgium Brewing – Hoptober (American Blonde Ale)

  • 6.00% ABV
  • Well that is surprising. I am not really a big fan of New Holland, not because they make bad beers but because I think they are really over hyped. Fat Tire is a average beer, nothing special and not horrible, but if I have to listen to 1 fuckwit rave about how awesome it is I am going to loose my shit. Uhhh… What ever, on to the beer. Not sure why it is called Hoptober because the IBU’s are to low for anything I would call hoppy but it is there is enough bitter in it to discount any idea of a Marzen. Ignoring everything I just said this is a pretty good beer. Kind of light for me but I can appreciate it.

Southern Tier Brewing Company – Iniquity (American Black Ale)

  • 9.00% ABV
  • I am pretty much on Black IPA overload and that is AWESOME!!! This is another squeezing of ambrosia that I am 100% happy to turn into pee. I guess the only negative thing I could say is that it is pretty much like all the other Black IPA’s, but that barely qualifies as a complaint. All in all this is really good. Strongish hops balanced by strongish malts.

Clown Shoes- Tramp Stamp (Belgian IPA)

  • 7.00% ABV
  • This is kind of a let down for me. I love the Hoppy Feet so much I was sure that this would be good as well, or at least close. I dont know, maybe it is just the style (which I am not a fan of), but I have others BIPA’a and liked them. I am just not feeling it here, it isnt bad but it is no where near as good as the other two Clown Shoes. I dont know try it?

New Belgium Brewing – Lips Of Faith Super Cru (Belgian Strong Pale Ale)

  • 10.00% ABV
  • Huh, well just like the Fat Tire this is a OK beer. Not good but not bad, well maybe just a little more bad than good. I dont know… New Belgium is all hyped up as the best brewer ever and I dont see it. It is average but it is by no means good. M1 and D1 dont like it at all and they are generally more forgiving than I am. D1 one is almost ready to pour it out and I think I agree with him. Fuck ya, this is bad. The more I drink the less I like it. This is now the 6th beer I have pured out but… It is no where as bad as the other pour outs. It might just be the mood tonight… What ever, the end result is it is getting poured out.

New Belgium Brewing – Lips Of Faith Clutch Collabeeration (American Stout)

  • 9.50% ABV
  • Full disclosure: I fucking love Clutch. The problem here is a potential conflict of interest. I went to high school (yes I did graduate from high school) with Neal. What ever, the point is I love Clutch. I was seriously worried that New Belgium would just ride the Clutch name and put out a shit stranded beer. NOPE! This is a really good ass beer and it is a stout which in my mind counts against it. NB says it is a sour stout, which sounds like a train wreck that already happened but it works. The sour isnt at a Lambic level but I can taste it in there, just enough to make the stout side enjoyable. It probably wont be brewed again so get it while you can.

Founders Brewing Company – Blushing Monk (Fruit Beer)

  • 12.30% ABV
  • Holy shit this is the best fruit beer I have ever had. I am not kidding. I like all most all of the fruits I have had but they have been pretty sour, this is definitely sour but it isnt the only thing going on. The raspberries take center stage here and they do it in delicious way. I swear to me that this is like a super alcohol infused fruit drink that is also a beer. I will burn your house down to prove the point.

Great Lakes Brewing Company – Commodore Perry (English India Pale Ale)

  • 7.50% ABV
  • Ya, ya Great Lakes is the bestest. What ever, this one proves the point I guess. It is REALLY good, far and away the best English IPA I have had. Not as bitter as an AIPA but that isnt a bad thing. It has a little more malt taste to it, or maybe it is because the hops arnt crushing everything else. Either way it is pretty good.

Great Lakes Brewing Company – Burning River (American Pale Ale)

  • 6.00% ABV
  • I dont mean this as a criticism but this smells like a big ole sack of grain. It is almost straying into the rye territory as far as the smell goes and that is a good thing. It is strong, weird and awesome. I like it (I cant believe I am saying this) but it isnt really what I am looking for right now.
  • + Buy again (latter when my tastes change)

21st Amendment Brewery – Back in Black (American Black Ale)

  • 6.80% ABV
  • Not sure if I would call this beer a Black IPA, it is more like a Black Pale Ale. It has that same… something that the other blacks I have tried but the IBU’s are noticeably lower. I really like it and could spend a night drinking them but if you are looking for a hop punch this isnt the beer you want. That is both a compliment and a complaint, I guess it depends on what kind of mood you are in.

KleinBrouwerij De Glazen Toren – Saison D’Erpe-Mere (Saison)

  • 6.90% ABV
  • Yup, I was wrong. The Belgians can make beer… One type of beer, Saison’s. And they do it really well. I have had a couple of American Saison’s and other than the Du BUFF and Sorachi (which doesnt really count) the Belgian’s crush at making good Saison’s. That really hurt to say because I hate their beer so much. But this is awesome. For fucks sake they invented it I guess they should do it right. What ever, it is good as balls. Buy it.

Green Flash Brewing Company – Summer Saison (Saison)

  • 4.50% ABV
  • Right! so if you go back and look at some of my other reviews of saison’s you will see there have been a few sub-par ones. This makes up for those in a big way. I am figuring out the style and I like it. Light, flowery almost perfume tasting with a strong taste of awesome. I really have no idea why I like it, it isnt really my taste but damn it is good. While there isnt any thing special tasting it delicious and very true (at least I think) to the style.
