Olde Richmond Beer Company – Batch No. 11 (American IPA)

  • ?.?? ABV
  • This is actually pretty good. Not that I am going to burn your house down to prove the point. But it is pretty good even tho it doesnt have anything out of the blue that make you want to punch yourself in the groin. It is pretty tasty in a “Holy shit I brewed a excellent AIPA!”. It hits all of the right notes and it doesnt make me wish I had bought some Stone’s. Yup I am pretty happy with it.

Widmer Brothers Brewing Company – Pitch Black IPA (American Black Ale)

  • 6.50% ABV
  • Oh I miss the HopStrike. I really like Black IPA’s but I have now had 4 bombers that were just, I guess good? This is another and while it is good it isnt great it is OK. My goatee is more interesting than this beer. I know that sounds dismissive but my goatee is pretty impressive and this beer isnt. It is OK for a Black and if this is you only choice go for it. But there are a lot of other better better Black IPA’s out there.

Peak Organic Brewing Company – Hop Noir (American Black Ale)

  • 8.20% ABV
  • God damn organic crap brewing. It ruins what ever could be a good beer. For real I have no idea what about organic brewing causes it to suck but I am pretty sure I havnt had one that I liked. This is OK but there is something in the taste that is a little off. Off as in organic off, what ever that means. I by no means am going to pour it out but I have had much better Black IPA’s. The DogZilla wasnt that good but I still liked it, this I dont really like.

Laughing Dog Brewing – DogZilla (American Black Ale)

  • 6.90% ABV
  • Not really what I was expecting. This is supposed to be the best Black IPA around? It isnt bad but it isnt anywhere near as good as a Hop Strike or an Self Righteous. I dont know for sure but I think it is just the malt they use in it, it isnt really to my taste. OH SHIT! I just looked it up and it isnt the malt, they use Simcoe hops. Simcoe, my archenemy. Another perfectly good beer ruined by simcoes damn it. It is still good so it really makes me wonder how good it would be without those shit hops.
  • + Buy again (if it is the only Black IPA around)

New Holland Brewing Company – Black Hatter (American Black Ale)

  • 5.50% ABV
  • It is definitely a black IPA, it has that delicious IPA taste with a punch of malts… Match made in heaven. If I had any complaint and I really dont, it would be that the flavors are a little muted. It works because the hop and malt tastes are in perfect ratios, I just wish they were a little more pronounced.

Brouwerij Van Steenberge N.V. – Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale (Flanders Oud Bruin)

  • 5.50% ABV
  • So I was pretty excited to get another sour. I really like them… A lot. I mean the whole concept is strange, these arnt sour like lemonade they are sour for the sake of being sour. And let me tell you, they are awesome. Smell this thing and you will think something went terribly wrong in the brewing, but in a delicious way. Taste it and you know something went wrong… but there is something there. Something intriguing that after the second sip becomes something that you want more of. This isnt as good as the Duchesse De Bourgogne but it is really good. Really good.

Odell Brewing Company – Odell Double Pilsner (American Double)

  • 8.10% ABV
  • Ummm… I dont really like it. It tastes like a pilsner but without that crispness. It is almost muddy tasting but I guess that is the double coming out. The one thing I can definitely point out as a down side is the ABV. 8.10 is really high without having something really out of left field taste wise. Uh, I guess I dont really like it.

Spoetzl Brewery – Bohemian Black Lager (Schwarzbier)

  • 4.90% ABV
  • The last Shiner I had wasnt all that good and (Yay!) this one makes up for it. Shiner is a 97 year old brewery and here is a good example as to why they are still around. Granted I am a fan of Schwarzbier’s but this stands on its own. It has an oddly light taste for such a dark beer. I mean you would expect it to be very heavily malted but it isnt. I mean you can totally taste it in there but it isnt over powering. It is almost light.

Grand Lake Brewing Company – Rocky Mountain Red Ale (American Amber)

  • ?.?? ABV
  • First of just to be fair, American Amber’s are not my favorite beer’s. With that being said I can say that this is a pretty good amber. It has a good malt body with barely a hint of hops. The label on the bottle say’s that they use an English yeast and I wouldn’t argue, it has that taste to it. Pretty good but not my style so…

Deschutes Brewery – Twilight Ale (American Blonde Ale)

  • 5.oo% ABV
  • This is the most non-American blonde ale tasting blonde ale I have ever had. This is almost a American pale ale but more of a AIPA. For real, it smells like a pine forest and tastes like a god damn grapefruit. It is a perfect light (not Miller Lite) tasting AIPA. And I dont mean a APA. This is really good and I wish it was me drinking the whole thing and not M1.

Elysian Brewing Company – The Immortal (American IPA)

  • 6.21% ABV
  • Not the best AIPA I have ever had but it is good. So I guess it is supposed it is actually supposed to be an English IPA but for some reason it is classified as an AIPA and I am not tasting enough IBU’s to make that true. BUT!!! As a English IPA it is really good. Actually if you looking for a lower bitter pale ale this is great. Shit I dont know it is good and you should drink it.

Elysian Brewing Company – Avatar Jasmine IPA (American IPA)

  • 6.30% ABV
  • Maybe I dont know what jasmine smells like, I mean I thought I did. I eat jasmine rice all the time and I eat a ton of Indian food. I know that doesnt qualify me as a expert but I am pretty sure I know what it smells like. This smells like malts, it is a good smell but I am not picking up any jasmine.  Malty as in a rye more than a stout I guess. The taste is equally confusing, it is supposed to be a IPA but I am not tasting it. Once again it is the malt that takes center stage, and just like the smell  it is good but not what I was expecting. So I guess this is a good beer but totally not what I was expecting…
