Thai Me Up / Melvin Brewing – Melvin IPA (American IPA)

  • 7.50% ABV
  • My crazy ass Vermont connection is back in town and that magnificent bastard brought me 2 beers. Thanks man! Anywho, onto the beer. Probably the coolest thing is that the brewer is from Wyoming, which isnt a thing anybody ever really says but I do because I am from Wyoming too. Thats cool right? Fuck you Wyoming is cool. This is a very subtle IPA, it doesnt have a shit ton of bitterness and what it does have falls into the citrus side of the house. I like it but I dont like how high the ABV is because it is so smooth I could drink a mess of them. Which in turn would turn me into a mess, a naked slobbering mess of a human. Like with bad decisions that would haunt me for the rest of my life, and I already have a tons of those. Welp, I guess it is good I only have one of them.

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery – Romantic Chemistry (American IPA)

  • 7.20% ABV
  • Well Dogfish continues its tradition of either making off the chart good beer or brewing the absolute worst. Thankfully this time it is awesome. So good… It really reminds me of their odd grape musk beer, it has that almost weird sourness to it. Not sour like a Flanders Red, but it is there. I really like it, and I mean that, but it isnt really an IPA like the way I would expect. There isnt a lot of bitterness in it, it just kind of sneaks around the corners. Its there but not out in the open. That holds true for the sour part, once again its there but not all up in your face. Kind of like Ebony and Ivory, if they were both high school football athletes that loved each other but felt they had to keep it on the down low because of societal restrictions. Beautiful but quiet.

Alpine Beer Company – Duet (American IPA)

  • 7.00% ABV
  • I almost didnt even review this beer because the last Alpine I had was good, and I will drink more of them, it wasnt great. After the first sip of this one I knew it deserved a review. It is not very bitter but there are a lot of very flavorful hops in it. I like the balance they got going on between the hops and then the hops and malts. It is pretty bad ass.

Terrapin Beer Company – The Walking Dead (American IPA)

  • 6.70% ABV
  • I have said it before but it bears repeating. Gimmick beers are not often any good and this is one of those. It isnt horrible but I am not really digging it. It is kind of like a mash up of flavors, there is some bitterness and some hops and I guess some blood orange in there also. It just isnt working for me. Some times when you mix things together you wind up with surprisingly good shit. Just try and pick up a Thai girl in a bar and you will know what I am talking about, a whole lot of WTF but then it gets all sexy. This beer isnt sexy, it also isnt very good. I am kind of dreading how much more of it I have to drink. Which I guess ties in with the whole Walking Dead theme…

Stone Brewing – Enjoy By 10.31.15 (American IPA)

  • 9.40% ABV
  • I have had a bunch of these and I am really starting to think that they are the same beer each time. They probably are and I am just an idiot for not realizing it but I seriously would have thought there would be variations to them. Either way they are pretty good, nothing I am going to want to have more than one every month or so. I guess the release cycle from Stone is perfect because they only come out like every quarter or so. It is pretty much what you expect from a Stone IPA but? Fresher? I dunno. It is pretty good.

Founders Brewing – Harvest Ale (American IPA)

  • 7.60% ABV
  • I am going to butcher the description of this beer. Mostly because I suck at describing things but what ever. You know how wet hopped beers have that wierdly smooth taste to them. Kind of like you can taste the green of the hops? Well this has it in spades. Told you I would fuck up the description. If you like wet hopped beers then you are going to love this and it is a pretty good beer. But… I dont like it. The bitterness is muted and there isnt really anything else that steps up to take its place. Also the ABV is a little to high to enjoy more than one or two of them, and that is OK it just isnt for me.

Oskar Blues – IPA (American IPA)

  • 6.43% ABV
  • I guess I not really a fan of Oskar Blues, I mean they make pretty good beers but they are always only pretty good. And SURPRISE!!! This is only pretty good. It is kind of like their pale ale, it has a lot of malt all up in it. Kind of like bacon it is good but not really to my taste. Yes I know, I am an asshole because I dont really like bacon and all of my life decisions are all wrong. What ever, this beer is only OK.

Maine Beer Company – Lunch (American IPA)

  • 7.00% ABV
  • Welp, I am a complete fucking asshole. I have had this for like 7 or 8 weeks and I was supposed to drink it fresh. I seriously let myself and Maine Beer Company down. I should have drank this as soon as I got it because it is really fucking good. Really good. I pretty much need to punch myself in the dick as punishment because this is so god damn good that I cant imagine how it would taste fresh. It smells a little like an orange, and it tastes very cirtus’y. The hops are a little subtle but damn my poop chute to hell if they aren’t delicious as balls covered in whipped cream. It am confused, it isnt a super IBU IPA but it is awesome. This is going up there with one of the best beers I have ever had. I miss you New England Beer Pipeline.

Coney Island Brewing – OverPass IPA (American IPA)

  • 6.20% ABV
  • Ever been to the dentist? I hope so, well unless you are from Kentucky because that is just your culture. I just got back from the dentist, because I am not from Kentucky, so my mouth hole is pretty fucked up. I got like 4 shots of novocaine and I cant feel the left side of my head. Point being, it probably isnt very fair to review this beer, so here I go. It is pretty good, I like the piney hops mixed with the citrus like smell. I think, even my nose is numb. It isnt going to shatter any world records for being the best beer ever but it is pretty good.

Russian River Brewing – Blind Pig (American IPA)

  • 6.10% ABV
  • I have been waiting for like 4 years to try this beer. I had pretty much given up hope on ever getting my hands on one of them, but good things happen to even shitty people. My homie brought this back from California for me and I am for real grateful to him. This has been a great beer week for me thanks to some pretty cool people. Thanks Dustin and Bruce. Any way this beer is as good as what I hyped it up to be in my brain hole. It isnt like most IPA’s made recently in that it has a pretty good balance of hops and malts. There is not really any sweetness from the malts and it isnt overpoweringly hoppy. The hops lean a little more to the pine but there is a hint of citrus in there too. I can honestly say that I dont know which beer is better, the Blind Pig, or a Pliney the Elder. Both of them are really world class beers.

Lift Bridge Brewery – Hop Dish (American IPA)

  • 7.50% ABV
  • I planed on thanking Bruce some more but fuck that dude, lets talk about this beer. Shit!!! This is made with 7 hops I guess which is cool I guess, I would have thought it would taste like a hot mess. No hot mess, it is awesome. It has a little citrus with a a good amount of malt that actually complements the beer, which is not something I ever say about IPAs. All in all this is pretty damn good, the only down side would be all of the ABV’s.

Bissell Brothers Brewing – The Substance (American IPA)

  • 6.50% ABV
  • So I guess cloudy beers are the Bissell Brothers thing. I am not sure if that is a good thing because it is a little off putting. But HOLY SHIT is this good. Strange but really fucking good. It tastes an awful lot like a orange, which is god damn odd. There isnt really any bitterness to it but I am not really missing it because the citrus really is what this thing is all about. I keep drinking it and expecting the taste to change but it isnt, pretty much all orange. I really want to know how they brewed this freak show.

Pabst Brewing Company – Ballantine IPA (American IPA)

  • 7.20% ABV
  • WTF?!?! This is a fucking Pabst beer. Gross. It actually isnt horrible but it has all the things that I hate about shitty IPA’s. It is sweet, it’s ABV is to high and the bitterness is all squishy. No crispness at all, which I can forgive but added up with everything else equals… Kind of poopy? Ya it isnt very good and with all of the resources available to Pabst you would hope for more.
