Tin Cannon Brewing Company – Rusted Pipe Red (Imperial Red)

  • 8.30% ABV
  • So my Boston beer supplier is back in action and thats pretty cool. He brought me this weird little growler from a brewer in… Gainsville, Va. Well its not Boston but I still want the the beer. I guess the brewer, Tin Cannon, is a micro brewer? Which means they are supper tiny I guess, I dont know but the micro part points to small right? Kind of like my pud, super tiny. Fuck who knows, I am not complaining. The beer is pretty good. It is very smooth, with basically the hops and malts balanced out. Neither one really tops the other and you can tell they are there. My only complaint is that the ABV is pretty high but you cant tell it from the taste. The only thing that gives it away is the warmness in the stomach.

THAI ME UP / MELVIN BREWING – 2×4 (American Double)

  • 10.00% ABV
  • Wow this is a sweet, sweet beer and I dont mean sweet like “Sweet Bro!”, I mean sweet like honey. It is also 10%, so I guess if you drink more than one of them you will be so off your ass that you wont notice the sweetness. I gotta say this isnt really doing it for me which is odd because this is a really highly rated beer. Well it takes all sorts I guess.

Stone Brewing – Thunderstruck IPA (Imperial IPA)

  • 8.70% ABV
  • Well it is certainly a Stone IPA, no chance of not recognizing that. It is super bitter, like over the top bitter. I have no idea what hops they used but DAMN SON! It is really really good. If it wasnt at hobo level ABV it would be perfect. But ya, there is way to much alcohol in this for me to really enjoy. It is good for a one time shot tho…

Hill Farmstead Brewery – Society & Solitude #5 (American Double)

  • 8.10% ABV
  • So this is a little scary, there is a shit ton of the ABV’s all up in here and I can barely tell. If you dont here from me in a couple of days… Rejoice at my death? I dont know, the Google bot is the onlything that ever reads this so I guess I am screwed. My crazy Vermont beer pipeline picked up this growler and a bunch of other beers for me, thanks Paul, I am going to miss your retarded devotion to beer. Any way onto the beer! It is pretty good but I think this is one of those situations where you build up something so much in your think box that the reality cant possibly live up to it. Hill Farmstead is so god damn good that it doesnt even make sense and this beer is really good too. It just isnt awesome, like the Susan was. I have no complaints at all except for the high ABV. This thing is going to kill me…

14th Star Brewing – Tribute (American Double)

  • 8.90% ABV
  • Well somebody certainly knows how to brew a beer. I would go so far as to say that, maybe, they are showing off? This is a pretty damn tasty Imperial, which isn’t something I say all that often. Well recently I have had a string of really good ones that means my tastes are changing? I guess? One thing I do know that isnt changing is my dislike of high ass ABV and this has got it. It is actually really bad here because you cant taste it at all which means if I had more than a couple of them I would probably wind up hobo drunk. Hobo drunk…

Fiddlehead Brewing Company – Second Fiddle (American Double)

  • 8.10% ABV
  • This is probably the best smelling beer I have had this year. I brings to mind a summer field of flowers that has just been covered with the blood of my enemies. Or at least how I hope that would smell because this beer smells fucking great. Just like I hope the spilled blood of my enemies does… It also tastes pretty damn good too. Nothing out of left field taste wise but it is good. NOTE: As I write my review’s am am drinking the beer at the same time so if I am fixated on something I am gonna talk about it. Holy shit this thing smells great.

Foley Brothers Brewing – Fair Maiden (American Double)

  • 8.20% ABV
  • Meh… I am really trying to like this but all I am coming up with is, it isnt horrible. I guess there should be a question mark after the horrible. I read on the bottle that they used 7 different hops in the brewing of it, which to me means it should be a fucking hop bomb. It isnt, it isnt even close. Maybe they only used one cone of each hop? Or maybe they were all aromatic hops? Fucked if I know, but I dont think it is crazy to expect that an Imperial IPA that proudly claims to use 7 hops to be hoppy. Like I said it isnt bad but it also isnt great.

Lawson’s Finest Liquids – Sip of Sunshine (American Double)

  • 8.00% ABV
  • Welp here is another world class beer from Vermont brought to me by the same crazy ass dude who brought me the Susan (which is one of the best beers I have ever had). Same deal to, that crazy fuck drove through one of the biggest snow storms of the year to get beer. Now dont get me wrong, I love beer, a lot… But damn son! What ever, I got some kick ass beer out of the deal, like this one for instance. Holy shit it is good. Normally I am not a fan of imperial IPA’s but damn it if this isnt smooth as shit. I can honestly that the Susan is better but that in no way means this is sub-par. The only down side I could say it has is that it tastes so good that you could drink a mess of them and then wind up sleeping in your bathtub with no idea how you got there. Actually that sounds awesome, so I guess there really isnt anything bad at all to say about it.

Stone Brewing – Enjoy By 2.14.15 (American Double)

  • 9.40% ABV
  • I think I am going to stop reviewing these because I am pretty sure they are all the same. Not saying that is a bad thing because they are awesome. But, pretty sure they are the same. I dunno, it is pretty much what you expect from a Stone IPA delicious beer. Super hoppy, a little on the citrus side. A small but detectable malt backbone that really complements but doesn’t detract. All in all it is a great beer.

Stone Brewing Company – RuinTen (American Double)

  • 10.80% ABV
  • Let me start off by saying that my PM bought this beer for me because I had to come in on a Saturday, or something, I dont remember. It wasnt really a big deal, shit needed to get done so I did it. The big deal is that he cared enough to do a little more to thank me and bought me this beer. I dont have a lot going on in my life other than being awesome so it is an appreciated gesture. Thanks Paul! Enough with the feelings, on to the beer-> I love Ruination, it is seriously one of my favorite beers. I like it so much I barely drink it because I dont want to make it ordinary. In theory this is a Ruinitation that has been amped up, which if you think about it is absurd. Ruination is all about ridiculous amounts of hops, like stupid levels of that shit. Well it smells like a badgers asshole the has been sitting in a plastic bag under a Nevada sun… For like a week. It smells bad. It tastes… OK? I dont know because the more I drink the better it tastes but that might be be to the ABV. Fuck! I dont want to type anymore. Fuck it, I dont know.

Stone / Beachwood / Heretic – Unapologetic IPA (American Double)

  • 8.80% ABV
  • So another IPA from Stone (and homies), so what? Well I don’t know if it matters but there are like 3 or 4 experimental hops in it. Does that make a difference? Ya, I think it does, because while IPA’s are pretty normal now, experimental hops are fucking cool. So what does that mean as far as taste? Its pretty good. It doesn’t have that sweetness that I usually associate with Imperial’s. The hop taste is new but not off the wall. Fuck I don’t know, I am not a god damn hop scientist. It is pretty good but it didn’t make me shit my pants (it has happened, dont judge).

Jack’s Abby Brewing – Mass Rising (American Double)

  • 8.00% ABV
  • Well this is surprising on so many fronts. First, it is a lager that tastes good. Not something that happens very often. Second, it is as hoppy as an IPA, which I don’t know how you pull off with out fucking the whole thing up. Finally, it is a Imperial which 9 times out of ten I dont like. They pretty much pull it all together for what is a really good (but strange) beer. Thanks Gary, you fucking Boston retard!

Stone Brewing Company – 18th Anniversary (American Double)

  • 8.50% ABV
  • I am not sure what Stone is doing but they say that this is a golden brown IPA. I dont know what that means but this is a pretty good beer. It is malty but not so much that it doesnt taste like an IPA. It is like a really malty IPA. It is a Stone so you are pretty much guaranteed that it is going to be good (pretty much). I like it, get one before they are gone.

Stone Brewing Company – Collective Distortion IPA (American Double)

  • 9.30% ABV
  • Got to hand it to Stone, they know how to brew a damn good beer. This was a collaboration with a couple of musicians that I dont know and not to be a dick, but dont really care about. This is definitely  a Stone. It is also an Imperial, which I havent really been licking recently but this is missing all of the shitty parts. It has about a billion hops in it and a enjoyable malt taste that isnt sweet at all. Its to bad this is a limited release.

The Alchemist – Heady Topper (American Double)

  • 8.00% ABV
  • Welp this would be the best Imperial IPA I have had in a really long time… Maybe ever? It is missing the hated sweetness that most Imperial IPA’s have, I mean it isn’t even noticeable. I have no idea how they pulled it off and I hope it isn’t a secret because all other brewers could learn something. The weird thing is that the smell isnt super awesome fun time. I dont mean it smells off, it just doest smell as good as it tastes. All right that is a shitty thing to say, I am reaching for a down side and there isnt one. This thing is great.
